A WOMAN was seriously injured after falling from the Blue Bridge on the Northwich bypass.
Police officers had been trying to persuade the woman to come down when she suddenly fell and hit the pavement below.
Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and after being treated by paramedics at the scene she was
transferred by ambulance to Leighton Hospital where her condition has been described as stable.
The drama unfolded at about 4.26pm on Sunday when a member of the public reported seeing a woman on the bridge about 15ft to 20ft up.
The woman, understood to live on the Kingsmead estate and aged 30-40, was in a distressed state and during the course of the incident climbed up to a height of 40ft.
A passer-by had been trying to talk her down before police arrived.
The road was closed in both directions for about 45 minutes while the emergency teams set up rescue equipment and tried to persuade her to come down.
A police spokeswoman said: 'The police officers were talking to her to come down when just before 5pm she fell from the bridge.
'She suffered injuries to her leg and head. They are not believed to be life-threatening and she was taken to Leighton Hospital where her condition is described as stable.'
