A WOMAN is in hospital with serious injuries after tumbling from a top-floor window at a city hostel.

It is believed the 30-year-old broke both legs and suffered spinal injuries after she fell out of the window at Stonham House, Lower Watergate Street, at about 3pm last Friday.

She is in the Countess of Chester hospital, where she is said to be on the road to recovery.

An investigation is being carried out as to how the incident happened, as the woman was not a resident of the hostel and not known to staff.

'She has no connection with us at all', said a spokesman for Stonham Housing Association, which runs the hostel.

'She was not a resident and she was not a friend of any of the residents there. We don't know what she was doing in the hostel.'

Cheshire Constabulary spokesman Jason Murray said: 'There are no suspicious circumstances. The woman is now in hospital after she suffered severe spinal injuries.

'Our involvement ends once we establish there was nobody else involved in the incident. We are not in a position to say whether she jumped or she fell.'

Stonham Housing Association is run by the Government's Housing Corporation.

The association is a special-needs housing support organisation which offers accommodation to single homeless people, those with mental health problems or learning disabilities, exoffenders, drug addicts and anyone seeking refuge from domestic violence.
