A woman passenger had to be cut out of a Subaru car after it was involved in a collision with a Volkswagen Golf at a major junction in Chester.

Fire crews who attended the collision at the A41/A51 Vicars Cross traffic lights junction cut off the roof and doors to release the female after being called about 7.30am today (Monday, February 23).

The woman, who was in pain with suspected back injuries, was taken into the back of an ambulance on a stretcher.

Firefighters say the male driver of the dark blue Subaru WRX had earlier been quickly released after they ‘popped’ the door. He is believed to have suffered minor injuries.

A woman driver of the white-coloured Golf was also seen by paramedics. Police say all three casualties were taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital as a precaution.

It is understood the Subaru had been coming along the A41 from the Hoole direction while the Golf had been approaching from the opposite direction.

The whole incident is believed to have been captured by CCTV cameras monitoring the traffic.

A street light was pole-axed during the collision. A recovery truck has now cleared the wreckage and the carriageway is clear.
