A popular former mayor of Winsford has been appointed as St Luke’s Hospice’s new ambassador.

Cllr Mike Kennedy, who raised more than  £6,000 for the Winsford-based charity during his time as mayor, is passionate about the care it gives to people in the town and its surrounding area.

Cllr Kennedy said: “I am absolutely overjoyed that St Luke's have asked me to be an ambassador for them.

“It never ceases to amaze me how many residents of Winsford feel they owe St Luke's so much for the care they gave to their family members and the high esteem in which the staff are regarded.

“It must be said that St Luke's is so much more than a hospice where people go to enable care in their final years. St Luke's is also a vital support service for those who have life threatening illnesses.

“I will do my utmost to support and promote them in the forthcoming years and help raise awareness of their service.”

Rhys Edwards, St Luke’s community and corporate fundraiser, said: “Over the past year as mayor, Cllr Mike Kennedy has raised over £6,000 for the hospice.

“This huge amount of money will help support patient care for local people.

“We are also delighted to announce that Mike will now take up an ambassadorial role for St Luke’s. Mike’s popularity as mayor throughout Winsford and with the hospice being on his ward means that we can now work with Mike in increasing our awareness within the local community.

“Once again we would like to thank Mike for all his hard work over the last year.”
