A Winsford man has been jailed after he was found guilty of indecent assault and indecency with a child.

Anthony James O’Neill, 69, of Carmarthen Close, Winsford, was found guilty of two counts of indecent assault and one count of indecency with a child on April 22, 2016, following an five-day trial at Chester Crown Court .

Today (Thursday, May 19), he was sentenced to a total of total of four years in prison at Liverpool Crown Court.

The charges related to historical offences which were committed at English Martyrs, a former high school in Warrington, during the 1980s.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Vanessa Byrne said: “I am pleased with the outcome of this case and I hope that the result helps to bring some form of closure to the victim in this case.

“I also hope that this case gives victims of sexual assault the confidence to come forward and report it no matter how long ago it was.
