Darnhall residents let their imaginations run wild when it came to creating their straw entries for the village’s 4th annual scarecrow trail on Saturday and Sunday.

Organiser Sue Langley said: “For weeks before everyone had been working very hard to create their scarecrows and as it got nearer to the weekend to judge them they just kept appearing everywhere.

“The imagination of some people that went into the creation of the scarecrows was brilliant, we had such a variety again this year.”

Amongst the effigies on display were a ‘very hungry caterpillar’, a Brazilian World Cup fan and a Red Cross nurse.

David and Victoria Beckham even made an appearance in an impressive ‘Posh and Becks’ Big Day’ themed display.

Pupils from Class 4 at Darnhall Primary School entered a scarecrow for the first time, called Mr Globe Globs.

Sue added: “Many thanks to all the people who took the time to take part and to those who kindly came along to the Village Hall over the weekend to judge the scarecrows.

“We raised £110 towards the upkeep of the hall.  The winner will be announced at our next big event which is our Village Day on Saturday, July 12.”
