Winsford Academy has appointed a new principal who has a ‘compelling vision’ for the school.
Amanda Harrison will take over leadership of the academy on June 6, following the resignation of Andrew Taylor-Edwards in December after a period of ill health.
Mrs Harrison is currently senior deputy head at Wrexham’s Ysgol Clywedog School, where she has played a major role in transforming its reputation and standards.
She holds a 1st class degree in English from Bangor University and enjoyed a career in business before entering the teaching profession in 2000.
Chair of governors Joanne Watkins said: “Mrs Harrison was the successful candidate from a very strong field, including several serving headteachers and impressed everyone she met with her warmth, drive and ambition to make the Winsford Academy a great school.”
The Fallibroome Multi-Academy Trust took over sponsorship of Winsford Academy in September 2014, after the secondary school was one of 10 removed from former sponsor E-ACT’s portfolio by the Department for Education.
Delighted
Peter Rubery, executive principal of the trust, said: “We are delighted to secure the services of a high quality leader.
“Mrs Harrison is a trained Estyn (Ofsted) inspector and presented the governors with a compelling vision for taking the Academy onto the next level.”
