Cheshire West and Chester could be battered with rain and wind gusts of up to 80mph tomorrow (Friday, January 29) as Storm Gertrude heads across the UK.

The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ wind warning for the borough which is in force from 1am until 6pm tomorrow.

West to south-westerly gales are expected to develop across northern England and parts of north Wales.

The wind warning reads: “Winds are expected to widely gust 60 mph and possibly 70-80 mph in exposed locations and also locally inland as a squally cold front moves east during the morning, especially across western Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England.

“Be aware of the potential for difficult driving conditions and disruption to travel and power supplies.”

Warning to be kept under review

Uncertainty over the exact track of the depression and the potential for medium impacts, means the Met Office will keep the warning ‘under close review’.

Today’s BBC Weather forecast for this area says: “There may be some brightness at first but also a few showers, some wintry. It will turn increasingly cloudy and windy through the day with heavier and more persistent rain spreading from the northwest. Temperatures around normal for late January.”

Tonight’s forecast states: “It is going to be wet and windy tonight with heavy and persistent rain and the risk of gales, possibly severe, around exposed parts. Severe gales easing, but remaining windy.”

The beginning of the week also looks likely to be affected by the weather with another yellow wind warning in place from 12.05am until 11.55pm on Monday (February 1).
