A RETIRED nurse who cared for patients with mental illness and developed dementia in later life, died following a fall.

Widow Jane Williams, 89, fell at Crawford's Walk Nursing Home on Lightfoot Street, Hoole, fracturing her hip.

Six days later she died in bed after contracting a chest infection, an inquest heard on Wednesday.

Her son, David Williams, of Newton Lane said: 'She would ring me and ask if my father was there and ask when I was coming home.'

In summer 2005 she moved to Crawford's Walk, where she would try to carry out her matron duties, thinking she was still a nurse.'

On February 6 this Mrs Williams, who had mobility problems, fell in the lounge of Craw-ford's Walk and died at the home on February 12.

Deputy Coroner of Cheshire, Janet Napier recorded a verdict of accidental death caused by a chest infection, her fractured hip and heart problems.
