FOLLOWING the success of the grand opening of this year’s MBNA Chestival the festivities are set to continue for the next 40 days.
Some of the things to look forward to include:
Starting today (Thursday) until June 21 dozens of classic and modern films will be shown on a big screen in the Amphitheatre, with showings during the afternoons and evenings, showcasing films including the Rocky Horror Show, War Horse, a Bug’s Life before concluding with Gladiator.
On June 23-24 from 2pm a magical display of unicorns, pirate ships, dragons and angels will fill the streets as the city celebrates the equinox with the Midsummer Watch Parade.
And on June 22-24 the Chester Mystery Plays in Miniature will perform The Flood with songs and dance telling the story of Noah and his battle with the elements.
On June 25-26 the An Audience With evenings begin with talks from Germaine Greer and Mark Steel.
On July 1 more than 300 people will sing with Chester’s giants as they perform a 40 minute opera, and more than 1,000 voices from across the country will perform in the Big Sing in the city on June 30.
From June 30-July 12 Chester will showcase some of the best musical talent from across the globe as the city welcomes Chester Summer Music Festival.
And for the grand finale the Vaudeville Weekend will take place from July 14-15 with crowds rolling up to watch mesmerising performances including Dante’s Inferno and the Ugly Bug Ball in the evenings, while the area outside the Town Hall is transformed into a Victorian funfair with a flea circus and freak shows.
