Christmas is likely to be wet not white across Cheshire West this year.

Rain is predicted by the Met Office for long spells on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

But Cheshire is not part of the severe weather warning hanging over parts of the North West through to December 27.

A flood warning is in effect for the River Dee catchment from Shocklach to Chester, with a less serious flood alert from Chester and Whitchuch down to the Dee Estuary.

The Environment Agency said it was continuing to monitor river levels over the festive period.

"However, rain is expected to arrive from the southwest by the afternoon and will once again turn heavy and persistent in places.

"There is potential for some further very wet weather on Boxing Day."

A flood warning was also in effect for the region this time last year.
