CHESTER MP Christine Russell is encouraging people to put forward the names of unsung heroes after a dearth of recipients from West Cheshire in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List.

The only person to receive an award from this area was Steve Maddox who lives in Chester but received his award for Services to Local Government because of his role as Wirral Council’s chief executive.

Ms Russell said: “I just think that in Chester and the surrounding area there are so many unsung heroes. We have dynamic, vibrant communities with an active voluntary sector and I would just call on local community groups and voluntary organisations to put forward the names of exceptional people whose contribution brings significant improvements to the well-being and quality of the lives of people in the community.”
