WEST Cheshire College’s Business Solutions team has scooped a national award which recognises the high quality work they deliver for apprentices.
The team was presented with unionlearn’s Quality Award for the success of their employer apprenticeship programmes.
Unionlearn is part of the TUC and works with TUC affiliate unions and employers on learning, skills and workforce development.
The accolade, which is awarded to outstanding apprenticeship programmes that meet unionlearn’s high standards and work successfully and flexibly with unions, was presented to the team for their work with Aintree University Hospitals Trust in Liverpool.
The team has successfully delivered apprenticeship frameworks in team leading, business and administration, customer services, hospitality and catering, and support services in health care for people in the workplace.
The Business Solutions team worked closely with both the hospital and the unions at the trust to promote training and learning within the workplace.
Pat Byrne, manager of commercial services at West Cheshire College, said: “We are extremely pleased that the partnership between West Cheshire College, unionlearn and Aintree University NHS Trust has been formally recognised with the achievement of this award. This collaboration has been an instrumental factor in the success of the apprenticeship programmes at Aintree.”
Laura Robertson-Collins, senior union support officer at unionlearn, added: “The close working between Union Learning Representatives (ULRs), unionlearn, West Cheshire College and the trust is a great example of real partnership working.
“Unions have worked with the college and the employer to help recruit and support staff to undertake and achieve qualifications. Many of the staff who have achieved their apprenticeship qualification are catering and portering staff who have not been offered learning opportunities in the workplace previously.”
Fiona Chapman, NVQ coordinator at Aintree University Hospitals Trust, said: “Our staff at Aintree have really benefited from the high class apprenticeship training provided by West Cheshire College.
“As a large employer, we have really appreciated the close working partnership we have with West Cheshire College and unionlearn, West Cheshire College have been able to offer us tailored and flexible apprenticeship training solutions to meet the diverse needs of our work force and the staff from the college who have been involved with the training deserve the quality award for their dedication and hard work.”
The team picked up the award at a glittering ceremony in London.
