STAFF and students at West Cheshire College enjoyed a celebratory Champagne tea to mark their achievement of the prestigious Beacon Award for the work of its Vocational Academy for Hospitality and Catering (VAHC).
Jane Samuels, of Edge, travelled to Chester to present the Edge Award for Practical Teaching and Practical Learning in front of staff and students who have worked so hard to achieve the award.
The Award recognises the effective use of practical learning with an emphasis on meaningful and challenging courses that stretch and change the lives of students.
College Principal Sara Mogel said: "We are delighted to have won this award and it’s great to have been able to have a celebration here at the College so staff and students can share in the success – it is hugely rewarding for them to receive public recognition of their hard work and accomplishment.
"We no longer differentiate between teaching and catering roles as all our staff work with learners in the kitchens, in the restaurant and behind the service counters. Entry level learners to professional chefs produce food for sale in the College restaurants and service areas.
"With an achievement rate of 94% we can clearly demonstrate our innovative methods work."
