TALENTED young bakers from West Cheshire College impressed their Italian counterparts with a selection of traditional and modern English breads during a visit to the annual International Bread Festival in Chester’s twin town of Senigallia.

The Hospitality and Catering students were selected to represent Chester at the annual Pane Nostrum festival where they baked a selection of English favourites including hot cross buns and speciality wholemeal bloomers with walnuts, sultanas and cheese.

Tutor Julie Hinde said: “It was a wonderful experience for the students but very hard work because they had to produce huge volumes to meet demand.

“The students and their breads were very popular with their Italian hosts who were particularly impressed with the wholemeal breads because Italians don’t generally make them.

“It’s a wonderful learning opportunity for our students, who were selected because of their motivation, attitude and progress. They were a credit to both the College and the City of Chester.”
