THIS is with reference to the search for the identity of the mystery hero who saved a young woman from the river in Aldford.
Unlike Superman he is modest and doesn’t wear his underpants outside his trousers and was just an ordinary guy to all who met him.
But that was until he became our local hero.
These days I think the term “hero” is too loosely used and I don’t think an individual should be claimed to be a hero until they have saved someone’s life.
But, to our family and many others, Matt Roberts is undoubtedly a true hero because that is what he did.
It was he who was first on the scene, jumped into the river and held the woman’s head above the water level so she wouldn’t drown, trapped upside down in her sinking car.
Matt is the partner of my mother, Anne O’Marah. It’s actually his 40th birthday in a week and we just thought everyone should know it was he who saved her life and that we are all very, very proud of him.
