WEAVERHAM soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice will be remembered at a remembrance parade and service in the village on Sunday.

The parade will form at 2.30pm in front of the shops in Northwich Road and march off at 2.40pm towards St Mary's Church for the service at 3pm.

On Tuesday there will be a small service at the war memorial outside the church. All those interested in attending are asked to be there by 10.50am.

Both events are being organised by members of the Weaverham branch of the Royal British Legion, who have set themselves the target of raising £2,750 for the Poppy Appeal this year.

The appeal was launched in Owley Wood Club last week, when £240 was raised at a concert featuring members of Barnton Variety Theatre Workshop.

The Weaverham branch is eager to point out money raised for the appeal is used at local level in a variety of ways.

This year it has supplied electric-powered wheelchairs, a walk-in shower and electric riser chair, and organised holidays for the severely disabled.

Branch spokesman John Bellamy said: 'Our dedicated team wish to thank all those organisations and individuals who have helped us and we appeal to the public to help us achieve our target toward the Welfare Fund.

'We would also urge everyone to support the two minutes silence at 11am on November 11.'

Other services include one organised by Davenham Royal British Legion on Sunday at St Wilfrid's Church, Church Street. The service will start at 10.30am and all are welcome.

Northwich's parade will gather at the Memorial Hall and feature standard-bearers, parade marshals and dignitaries who will march off at 10.30am for a service at the cenotaph in Church Road at about 11am.

There will be a memorial service at St John's Church, Lostock Gralam, at 10am, followed by a short wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial in the churchyard at 11am.

Rudheath's service takes place in the cemetery at 2.30pm, a parade in Hartford begins at 10.30am with a service to follow at the cenotaph at 11am, and Cuddington and Sandiway's parade makes its way to St John's Church in Sandiway for an 11am service.

Barnton's parade assembles at the Royal British Legion Club in Meadow Drive at 10am, while there will be a service in Marston at the cenotaph at 10am.
