A WEEK-LONG series of events is centred on the Kingsway area of Chester next week – culminating in a youth and community fun day.

Organised by Cheshire West and Chester Council, the multi-agency safer, stronger event begins on Monday.

Taking part will be the council, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, Cheshire Police, Chester and District Housing Trust and Kingsway and Newton Residents Association.

Throughout the week Streetscene will remove graffiti and weeds near the shops as well as fly tipping from the rear of the old Woodfield Primary School site, clean the shops car park and its paved area.

Chester and District Housing Trust will cut hedges and grass on its land, as well as general weeding and tiding of shrub beds.

Fly-tipping and the removal of bulk items from communal yards, litter picking and tidying of wheelie bins will also be carried out.

Saturday is the big Fun Day taking place at Lime Wood Field between 11am and 3pm.

Activities include a five a-side match, African drumming, face painting, a bouncy castle, as well as details about how to join a credit union, bike repairs and fire prevention.

Also provided will be community safety and crime prevention advice such as bike engraving and the promotion of Homewatch.
