A NEW Cheshire Police website reveals that crime is up in Vale Royal compared to the same period in 2007.
The site, found at www.cheshire.crimemapper.co.uk, enables people to search for crime statistics for each area and compares them to the reported crime which took place in the same period the year before.
Crime between the months of September and November in the Vale Royal area was up by 4.6% compared to the same period in 2007.
Malpas saw crime rise by 24%, with the number of incidents of vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour decreasing but incidents of burglary and violent crime are on the increase, with 11 violent crimes taking place from September-November this year compared with three over the same period last year.
Crime in Tarporley and Oulton increased by 42% with more cases of anti-social behaviour and burglaries taking place from September-November in 2008 compared to 2007, but there was a decrease in the number of vehicle crimes and violent crimes.
Tattenhall saw crime rise by 27%, with more vehicle crimes, violent crimes and burglaries than the same period in 2007. Fewer crimes took place in Kelsall from September-November in 2008 compared to the same period in 2007. People in Tarvin also saw a drop in crime.
Inspector Phil Hodgson said the website is a tool for people to find out what is going on in their area.
He said: “The Government has asked each police authority to make this information available to the public. You cannot get the whole picture just from these statistics, you need to look at other information to get a real idea of what crime is going on.”
Tattenhall City Cllr Mike Jones said: “Generally the feedback I have got back on crime and police work in the area has been very positive.”
