Polling stations are closed and the count is due to start at the Northwich Memorial Hall as the Weaver Vale constituents and the prospective parliamentary candidates wait to find out their fate.
The count itself is taking place in the Main Hall and there are still dozens of empty seats waiting to be filled by counters, expected to arrive with the ballot boxes.
Returning officer Noel O'Neil, Cheshire West and Chester head of assests and facilities, said: "I'm very excited about the count.
"It's going to be a long night and I don't think they'll be much to say before about 11.30pm."
The early indication from Weaver Vale is that the turnout has been good although figures won't be available until about 11.30pm.
