THERE was an extra touch of poignancy to this year's Service of Remembrance in Ellesmere Port on Sunday.
The mother of a Port soldier who was killed in Iraq was at the cenotaph to lay a wreath in his memory.
Officials pulled out all the stops to ensure the name of Corporal Marc Taylor was added to the Civic Way war memorial in time for Sunday's ceremony.
Cpl Taylor, 27, was serving with the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers when he was killed in an ambush on the outskirts of Basra on September 28.
He was a married man with one young child, two-year-old Sophia, and another expected by his wife, Olivia, next April.
Cpl Taylor's mother, Linda Roach, who lives in Wervin, stepped forward to lay the wreath.
Borough mayor Brian Jones led representatives of various organisations in tribute to the dead of two world wars and conflicts that have happened since.
