Students at a Chester high school have been sent inappropriate messages and images – some sexual in nature.

Staff at Bishops’ Blue Coat CE High School have written to parents and guardians to warn them that several students have been contacted on a number of social media platforms and to urge them to discuss online safety with their children.

Deputy headteacher Peter Coates wrote: “The account holder is infiltrating accounts and profiles in various social media contexts; so far we are aware of contacts via Facebook, Oovoo and Snapchat.

“As a school, we are working with the police who are keen to know who this individual is.

Advice for parents

The school is encouraging parents and carers to ensure their children are aware of the risks of engaging with strangers and that their social media accounts are at the highest privacy settings.

“We are anxious about our students’ safety and well-being so we wanted to get the message out,” Mr Coates added.

The Chronicle contacted Cheshire Constabulary to comment, but the force has yet to respond.

Concerns and inappropriate messages can be reported to police by calling 101.
