POLICE are warning residents to take care after a second robbery in the space of 10 days in a town centre subway.

A 31-year-old man was robbed on Thursday as he pushed his bike through the subway in Chesterway towards Northwich centre.

The cyclist was stopped by a man who asked him for spare change to catch a bus. After giving him a small amount of money, the offender felt the man's pocket, realised he had some notes, grabbed him round the throat and pushed him against the wall, taking £90 in cash.

The two men were involved in a struggle on the floor, during which the cyclist managed to bite the arm of his attacker, before the offender made off with the cash and his Raleigh mountain bike.

The suspect was described as about 30, white and with a Liverpool accent. He was said to be 5ft 10in, stocky and wearing a Nike cap and a blue tracksuit with a baggy top which had white flashes under the arms.

Last week the Chronicle told how a 25-year-old diabetic woman had her handbag stolen by four males as she walked through the subway.

Northwich police's Nick Hayes said: 'We are concerned about these robberies and would urge people to take caution.'

Police are linking the latest incident to a theft in Belmont Road, Northwich.

A 19-year-old man was robbed as he rode his bike along a path at about 3.30pm on Friday. He was approached by three males, one of whom pushed him off his bike and removed his wallet from his back pocket.
