PET owners in Blacon are being warned to be on their guard following the discovery of a trap in Rhuddlan Road.

A resident found a cat on her doorstep which had been caught in a gin trap and reported it to officers from Chester Outer NPU.

The injured animal was taken by the RSPCA to a local vet where it was treated for its injuries.

Meanwhile officers seized the trap and are now appealing for witness to come forward.

PC Andrew Manson said: “This type of trap is extremely dangerous and it is not just animals that are at risk.

“There is a very real possibility that a child could have been injured and we need to find whoever set the trap to ensure no further animals or people or hurt.”

Local people claim this latest example of animal cruelty is another in a long line of problems in the area and that it is cats specifically which are being targeted.

PC Manson added: “This is an issue we are taking extremely seriously and I would like to appeal to anyone with any information to contact Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Information can also be left on the Chester Outer NPU voicemail on 0845 458 6375.
