WINSFORD'S war heroes will be remembered in a service involving town leaders and dignitaries on Sunday.

Town Mayor Nick Harris will be joining the Royal British Legion plus members of the Cheshire Regiment, Burma Star, Cubs, Brownies, Scouts and Guides and representatives of other organisations within the town in an act of remembrance at the cenotaph in Winsford Cross Shopping Centre.

A parade of all the organisations, including members of the public who would like to join in, will assemble on the drive to Wyvern House at 10.15am. It will then march along The Drumber, Dingle Lane, High Street and Dene Drive, through the side entrance doors into Fountain Court.

Then a service of remembrance will be held at the cenotaph in honour of all the town's heroes of the First and Second World Wars.

Recently the names of servicemen who lost their lives in more recent struggles like the Falklands War and the Troubles in Northern Ireland have been added to the roll of honour.

MIDDLEWICH will remember those who have fought in the wars with an open-air service on Remembrance Sunday.

A procession will lead from the Royal British Legion club in Lewin Street and will march towards the cenotaph in the Bull Ring where the two-minute silence will be held.

The Rev Ian Bishop, of St Michael and All Angels' Church, will be officiating at the service.

Standard-bearers from the Royal British Legion will lead the procession.

Town councillors, mayor Alison Roylance-White and other groups will all be in attendance. Members of the public are welcome to join the procession.

Derek Millington, from the RBL, says the day is important and holds a certain amount of significance after the recent conflict in The Gulf.

He said: 'Every year we seem to have something to be poignant. Sunday will remember the two world wars and the other things that have happened.'

He added: 'I have noticed a lot of younger people attend, which we like. We want people to remember what has happened and to be interested in the work of the Royal British Legion.'

The procession leaves the RBL club at 10.30am with the service starting at 11am.

Afterwards the procession marches back to the club where refreshments will be available.
