IMAX and Vue are this week challenging film fans in Cheshire to take part in their own Mission: Impossible style feat, to celebrate the opening of Vue Cheshire Oaks’ new IMAX screen.

From Thursday, July 30 a brand new state-of-the-art IMAX theatre will open to the public at Vue Cheshire Oaks cinema. To celebrate the first film on the new screen, the thrilling Tom Cruise blockbuster Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Vue and IMAX are challenging fans to make their own action-packed entrance into the cinema.

A vertigo-inducing zip wire is being installed outside the cinema for one day only, challenging fans to fly their way towards the venue to win tickets to experience the film in IMAX.

Each daredevil to brave the 9.2 metre high zip wire will win what they successfully cling onto from top to bottom, with the first twenty being armed with free tickets to the first IMAX screenings of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation along with cinema treats. Subsequent high-fliers, armed with popcorn and drinks, will get to keep whatever they don’t spill.

The contest is inspired by the film’s thrilling scene in which Tom Cruise and Rebecca Ferguson’s characters make an airborne escape from the Vienna Opera House. The event also pays homage to local resident, Ellesmere Port’s own Jenny Tinmouth who was a stunt double for Ferguson in some of the film’s action sequences.

Tony Bywood, general manager of Vue Cheshire Oaks commented: “We are delighted to launch the new IMAX screen, and what better way to celebrate than to provide our customers with a thrilling opportunity to win tickets. We couldn’t ask for a more action-packed movie to debut on this incredible screen. We’re looking forward to see how many local film fans can rise to the challenge”.

The zip wire will be in place outside the Vue cinema at Cheshire Oaks and open to the public from 2pm until 5pm tomorrow (Thursday, July 30).

On Saturday, August 1 shoppers at the Coliseum Shopping Park will have the chance to have fun getting fit when the Crown Estate Thrive summer series visits the venue.
