Chester -based Save the Family has received a boost to its volunteers thanks to the generosity of The Morgan Foundation.

The charity has been able to employ Jocelyn Horton, a volunteer co-ordinator, following a recent grant to recruit and support new and existing volunteers at its centre for homeless families near Chester.

For more than 40 years, Save the Family has been providing practical support for homeless families from across the UK who have become homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless.

The families supported by the charity have multiple, complex needs which has resulted in marginalisation and negative characteristics manifesting in their lives. In a structured family friendly environment, the dedicated Save the Family team mentor families to bring about significant, positive change in their lives.

The grant received from The Morgan Foundation will now allow a greater scope for volunteering and will enable Save the Family to recruit and support volunteers from the community and beyond, to underpin the mentoring work taking place at the family centre and also make a positive contribution to the resources of the charity.

Save the Family’s chief executive Simon Groom said: “Volunteering is at the heart of the vibrant and successful work of Save the Family. Lots of people find their own ways of giving time but the support from The Morgan Foundation will now enable our volunteer co-ordinator to find new opportunities and help people get into volunteering with us quickly. We’re really keen to attract volunteers, spanning the generations, as well as those who might volunteer their time and skills relevant to their own work. There are fantastic volunteering opportunities at our family centre, designed to help people and organisations on our doorstep make a positive social impact and we hope to see a big upsurge in numbers of volunteers coming forward.”

Trustee of The Morgan Foundation Vincent Fairclough, who presented the charity with a wall plaque to mark the grant which could total up to £66,000 over three years, said: “Save the Family’s aim of keeping families together and supporting them through difficult times is very worthwhile and we are delighted to be able to support them in this work.”

The charity is keen to hear from people who’d like to develop volunteering opportunities with families, children, fundraising, administration, gardening, crafts, facilities management, DIY and driving.
