WINTER vomiting virus forced closures in four wards at the Countess of Chester Hospital over the weekend.

A surgical ward and three medical wards had bays closed as the number of cases of the 48-hour-virus rose.

Spokesman Stephen Wintersun said: “There was an increase over the weekend with patients requiring treatment or developing the virus. Three medical wards and one surgical ward all had some closed bays, but whole wards weren’t shut.

“To contain the virus we have identified two areas to accommodate patients with another medical problem as well as the virus.”
