VIOLENCE and arrests marred another Wrexham and Chester football derby over the weekend.

Hostilities peaked at the Racecourse stadium in Wrexham on Sunday where five arrests were made.

Officers broke up two specific groups who were causing trouble and there were reports of fighting all along the Mold Road near the ground.

North Wales Police said further arrests were expected in the next few days following the Blue Square Premier match.

Officers clad in riot gear were out in force to deal with any potential troublemakers.

A North Wales police spokesman said: “Five people have been arrested as a result of the Wrexham v Chester football match.

“Two groups were intent on causing trouble following the game and specifically trained officers from North Wales Police and Cheshire Police intervened.

“No-one was injured as a result of the trouble and further arrests are anticipated in the next few days.”

The match, played before a 5,913 crowd, finished 0-0.
