MOTOR car enthusiasts will be taking part in a classic rally from Chester to Silverstone this weekend.

More than 50 cars from various marques from the early 1950s to the mid 1980s will set off from Gorse Stacks Car Park at 8.30am on Sunday.

The motor car enthusiasts will be aiming to enjoy a leisurely 170-mile journey on a predetermined route to one of the UK’s top motor racing circuits.

Cars lined up take part in the rally include a 1953 Austin A40 Somerset, a 1967 Jaguar Mk II, a 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback GT and a 1987 Ferrari 328 GTS.

The Chester rally is being organised by Chester Motor Club, which is inviting residents to come and take a look as the drivers set off into the Cheshire countryside.

Martin Chandler, of Chester Motor Club, said: “It is a low-key event with a very relaxed atmosphere, and quite spectacular.

“People are invited to come along on the Sunday morning and visit the motor car enthusiasts before they set off and talk to them.

“Our aim is to have a semi-social event with a friendly crowd of people.”

Drivers taking part in the rally will head from the Gorse Stacks Car Park to go along the A41 through Waverton, toward Huxley, Tattenhall and Broxton.

From there, they can pay visits to a series of attractions along the way before arriving at Silverstone, the home of this year’s Formula One British Grand Prix.

Once there, they will have the chance to drive a few laps of the Grand Prix circuit with other classic car motorists.
