A STAGGERING £65,000 has been raised in just six months for a church’s tower appeal.

The Rev Hine, of St Helen’s Church, Tarporley, wants to thank everyone who has given time, skills and money for the church tower’s renovation appeal, which is now well on its way to the £100,000 target.

In May the Rev Hine said the experts had found the church tower was in need of major repairs and renovation. He then launched the tower appeal calling on local people to help raise the money.

Mr Hine said: “ This is a great achievement after only six months and gives us real encouragement for the year ahead.”

And the church has a packed schedule of fundraising events.

On Saturday, December 5, St Helen’s will host a sponsored hymnathon. Singers are invited to encourage donations for their efforts, aiming to sing up to 50 favourite hymns and carols. The event is open to everyone, sponsored or not. On the same day the Guides will be making a line of pennies down the High Street to fundraise.

The Ultimate Plum Pudding Company, a Gold Great Taste Award winner, is selling Christmas puddings in aid of the appeal and there is also a barn dance, quiz night and a Tarporley’s Got Talent event planned.
