A man is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the stomach while in the toilets at Chester Railway Station.

The 28-year-old victim was taken to Countess of Chester Hospital where he is still receiving treatment for his injuries but his condition is described as comfortable.

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) were alerted to the incident shortly before 8.30pm on Saturday March 22.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Our officers attended, alongside colleagues from Cheshire Police, and discovered a man had been stabbed to the stomach.”

“Since the incident, which is believed to have taken place in the toilets at the station, BTP detectives have worked with Cheshire Police to gather evidence and view CCTV from the area and are now calling on anyone with information about the incident to come forward.”

The spokesman added: “Violence on the railway, particularly of this serious nature, is rare and passengers can be reassured that the chances of becoming a victim violent crime are extremely low.

“However, when crime does occur BTP is committed to carrying out full investigations and doing everything in its power to bring offenders to justice.”
