VANDALS have destroyed a wooden Romany caravan in a secure compound.

In the early hours of Friday (January 9) morning, two engines from Chester fire station rushed to the scene at Chester Way off the A56 in the Bridge Trafford Area to find the caravan blazing.

They used two hose reels to extinguish the flames and dampened down the remains of the vehicle at 12.37am.

There were no signs of any accelerant or source of ignition so officer in charge Chris Roddaway said it was deemed an act of vandalism.
