YOUTHS who tore down a brick wall in a sheltered housing complex in Saltney have been condemned by community leaders.

Yobs wearing black hoodies vandalised the wall and fence next to Douglas Place.

Cllr Veronica Gay has called on other young people in the town to pinpoint who was responsible for the damage.

She said: “I don’t understand this mindless vandalism. These youths kept their heads down so no-one could see them and they were wearing hooded tops.

“We have got some fine people living in the area and if it was their gran or grandpa living there would they still have pulled the wall down?

“The neighbours were frightened to come out and others came to them to calm them down. What do these youths hope to achieve from this? ”

Saltney community beat manager Ian Millington said the area around Douglas Place had seen anti-social behaviour in the past.

He added: “It seems like there is a pocket of trouble and now it definitely needs added security.

“We are patrolling the area as much as we can but we need people to phone us if there is trouble around.”
