COUNCIL house residents are being urged to use their votes on the future of the borough's housing stock.

Members of the shadow board of Waterways Housing have posted their ballot papers and are encouraging fellow tenants to do the same.

The borough council has started balloting all its tenants on plans to transfer the ownership and management of homes to Waterways.

Chairman of the borough's special housing stock transfer committee, Cllr Justin Madders, said: 'This has been a massive consultation exercise and we want as many tenants as possible to have their say.

'It's not too late to vote. Tenants should not waste their chance to help shape the future for homes and services in Ellesmere Port and Neston.'

Tenant board member and chairman David Harding added: 'Deciding on transfer is one of the most important decisions we'll be asked to make.

'I've used my vote and hope everyone else will use theirs before the ballot closes.'

Ray McHale, who opposes the move, and other protesters have been out leafleting borough estates, urging tenants to vote 'no'.

Mr McHale claimed: 'We feel it is a disgrace that the council is trying to sell tenants something they don't want.

'Tenants will not be fooled by all the glossy brochures and videos.'

Tenants with questions about the transfer proposal can call the council's freephone information line on 0800 073 1465 or the independent tenants' adviser TACT@DOME Consultants on 0800 919 994.
