A TEENAGER from Chester has trekked more than 100 miles over tough terrain to raise funds for British servicemen and women injured in combat.

Aiden Roberts, 14, from Upton, was joined by a dozen fellow Air Cadets from 610 City of Chester Squadron in Abbots Park for the fundraising feat.

The Bishops High School pupil was chosen to take part in the five-day mission from Winchester to Eastbourne after he completed a tough series of endurance challenges.

Aiden’s feat to raise funds for the RAF Association was backed by bosses at Grosvenor Shopping Centre in Chester.

Along the way, he wore a T-shirt emblazoned with their famous logo after the city retail hub pledged to sponsor his efforts.

Julie Webb, general manager of Grosvenor Shopping Centre, said: “The qualifying process itself would frighten most people, but Aiden is an inspirational young man and he was determined to complete the walk and raise money for this very worthy charity.”

Aiden, who is also a young carer for his mum Sharon, raised £350 from the challenge.

He said: “It was quite tiring as we were walking 15 miles a day and up to 25 miles some days.

“I have blisters now but it was all worth it. I just want to thank everyone for sponsoring me and the Grosvenor Shopping Centre for all their support.

“Servicemen and women do so much for us and they don’t get much in return, so I want to do something to give back to them for putting their lives on the line for us.”

His mum Sharon added: “I couldn’t be prouder of him.”
