Upton High School has been crowned U16 National Schools Badminton Champions for the third time.

The team has now made National Finals five times. Beth Newis, Alex Goodwin, Laura Williams and Rachel Barrett kept their cool throughout a very tense and closely fought final match in order to come away as champions once again.

A school spokesperson said: “Not only did they make history last year by retaining their title but they have gone one step further to retire as hat-trick champions in 2015.

“The girls have worked incredibly hard and dedicated themselves to the team tremendously throughout this very important exam year. The school would like to express its gratitude to them and their parents. We are incredibly proud and a little emotional at the end of a very successful era.”
