STUDENT volunteers from the University of Chester have been cleaning up their neighbourhood.

Teams from sporting and social societies were allocated a street in the Garden Quarter to educate residents regarding green practice and the council’s new recycling scheme.

Armed with black bin bags the students also cleared up the area of loose rubbish and waste.

The community clean-up was supported by Cllr Bob Rudd, the Garden Quarter association, Chester Fire Brigade, PCSO Andy Jones and the Bouverie pub, which provided food for the volunteers.

Becky Lees, vice-president of Chester Students’ Union, said: “We are all so proud of the effort and dedication the students have shown.”
