Police are looking to trace two youths spotted running away from an arson attack on a house in Ellesmere Port.

The incident happened at about 11pm on May 24 when the occupant of the house on Hillside Drive noticed the side of the shed and opposite fence were on fire.

They spotted two figures in black climbing over the side gate and into the front garden before running off towards Rivacre Country Park.

Police are also keen to trace a possible witness who spoke to the occupant of the house.

He had been walking past when he had seen the two figures running off and had heard them talking and laughing about the incident.

The witness is described as being white, in his 20s, with short dark hair and of a slim build. He was wearing all black clothing and had a rucksack.

The fire has caused extensive damage to the fencing and the shed as well as the guttering and roof of the property. The heat of the fire also caused the rear of the door to the neighbouring property to melt.

Detective Constable Rob Mackay, of Ellesmere Port CID, said: “This incident could have been much more serious if the occupant hadn’t noticed the fire at an early stage as it is likely to have spread to the house.”

The offenders are both believed to be teenagers, dressed all in black with one of the youths being considerably shorter than the other.

Anyone who may have any further information or may be able to identify the witness is asked to contact Cheshire Police quoting incident number 1049 of 24 May.
