Two horse riders have been hurt on a Chester cycle way after their mount was spooked.

The North West Air Ambulance attended along with police cars and paramedics to the scene in Mickle Trafford earlier this afternoon (Sunday, June 26).

A Chester police spokesman said: "Two riders were thrown from their horse when the animal became spooked. The riders have suffered neck and head injuries and have been taken to hospital as a precaution."

The spokesman added the incident had taken place away from the public highway so there had been no impact on traffic in the area. It is not yet known how serious the injuries suffered by the riders were.
