TWO school friends who were reunited via Facebook are planning to embark on the charity adventure of a lifetime.

Kerry Harley and Emma Challinor both aged 26, and former Tarporley High School pupils are taking on a four-day trek in the Sahara desert in aid of the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT) in Altrincham. However, just months ago the pair were not in contact and didn’t no what the other was up to.

Kerry said: “We were really good friends at school, but once Emma left to go to college and I started sixth form we lost touch. It was only through Facebook not that long ago that we got back in contact.”

Kerry said she told Emma about the voluntary work she was doing for The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT). CAFT provides life-changing experiences and opportunities for thousands of terminally ill, disabled and disadvantaged children each year.

Kerry said: “I enjoy volunteering and a couple of girls at CAFT said they were going to do the trek and I decided to do it as well. Once Emma heard what I was doing she decided to join me.”

Both girls need £1800 to undertake the challenge. They have already held a series of fundraising events.

Kerry said: “We are both really lucky in that Kellogg’s who I work for and Barclays who Emma works for have agreed to match some of our fundraising.”

Emma and Kerry have been training at Morcambe bay, Formby dunes and Snowdon.

Kerry added: “The training is difficult because we will be walking on sand most of the time. The main issue will be the heat, we can’t recreate it.”
