MASSIVE tailbacks on the M56 were caused by a two-car collision on Sunday (June 26).

Firefighters had to cut a man out of one of the cars after being called at about 5pm to the eastbound carriageway between Junction 12 (Clifton) and Junction 14 (Hapsford).

A Honda CRV and Toyota Auris were involved in the collision. Two fire appliances from Ellesmere Port and one fire appliance from Runcorn arrived because people were reported to be trapped.

Fire crews extricated one man who was trapped in one of the vehicles and handed him over to the care of the Ambulance Service who treated him for a neck injury.
