Two pupils were involved in two separate road traffic collisions within minutes of each other as they were leaving their Ellesmere Port school yesterday afternoon (Thursday, February 13).

One boy was cycling across the crossroads outside University Church of England Academy on Whitby Road when he was clipped by a car shortly after 3pm.

While paramedics were attending to him, another boy was hit by a car as he was crossing the road.

Both pupils were taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital with non life threatening  injuries.

One of the boys was able to return to school this morning.

UCEA principal Kevin McDermott said: “I am just so glad that both boys are okay.

“It is a phased crossing and sometimes it can appear that the road is clear. We have a senior member of staff covering the crossing about ten minutes before the school day starts and ten minutes after because it can be quite dangerous.”

Mr McDermott added that they have held  assemblies today about road safety and told  the pupils what happened.
