OFFICERS from two police forces searched village homes yesterday after Travellers were suspected of cheating a vulnerable 81-year-old out of cash.
Greater Manchester Police received tip-offs from Elton residents after seeing CCTV footage of the two conmen on national TV last week.
Their victim also gave an anonymous TV interview in which she said: ‘I have prayed for them, for somebody to say something to them and tell them what they have done is wrong.’
She added: ‘It was lucky I didn't have my walking stick with me, though, because I would have used it.’
Yesterday (Thursday) two men aged 39 and 29 handed themselves in to police and a dozen officers searched homes in Ince Lane and Old Hall Lane in Elton for evidence.
The men are believed to be part of the travelling community and have recently used the Elton houses.
A builder working on a house in Old Hall Lane said: ‘We saw about eight plain clothes officers and two uniformed police approach the house. I don’t think they had to use any force to get in.’
