MORE than 80 parents caring for a child with a disability enjoyed a well-deserved break on Thursday thanks to The Princess Royal Trust Cheshire Carers Centre.

The event at Portal Golf & Country Club was opened by Stuart Boreham, the first disabled person to row the Atlantic Ocean, who brought along the Olympic torch which he was asked to carry through London in 2004. He gave an inspirational talk to get the day-long event under way.

Spokeswoman Caroline Hebblethwaite said: 'Parents attending discovered more about how the Northwich-based Cheshire Carers Centre can provide them with information, advice and support.

'But the main aim was to give them some time out from their often exhausting lives by taking

part in activities like creative writing, the art of story telling, digital photography, relaxation and beauty therapy, handmade cards and even belly-dancing.'

She said parents caring for children with learning difficulties, physical difficulties or multiple complex difficulties should call the

Carers Helpline on 0800 085 0307 to find out about future events or how they can get support.

Meanwhile, a similar day for carers of anyone - adult or child - with an illness, disability or frailty is planned at the golf club on Saturday, May 6. Again, call 0800 085 0307 to book a place.
