A FATHER and daughter completed a gruelling trek across the country to raise cash for a charity they both hold dear.

Ray and Hayley Young, from Ledsham Road in Little Sutton, were joined by Hayley's boyfriend Andy on the 84-mile walk along Hadrian's Wall which saw them generate more than £1,500 for the British Diabetic Association.

Hayley, 20, has suffered with the worst form of the condition, Type One, since she was two years old and will be dependent on daily insulin injections for the rest of her life.

As a result all three wanted to face the gruelling challenge to help create awareness about diabetes and raise funds for research into the condition and a potential cure.

Mr Young said: 'We finished the walk in six days covering a total of 93 miles. It was a great adventure from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway with some awe-inspiring views of the wall.

'I would like to thank everybody who donated including friends, family and work colleagues.'

He also thanked Steve Bethel of Bagnall's Paints, Coronation Road, Ellesmere Port for his generous donation.
