Travellers who set up camp on the customer car parks of two Ellesmere Port businesses have returned to Asda's car park after being moved on under police powers on Wednesday afternoon (November 25).

The group initially parked up on the supermarket car park on Monday but then moved on to sites owned by Nation Tyres and Autocare and RPV Trading in Coronation Road.

But Cheshire West and Chester Council , which sent a Gypsy-Traveller coordinator to the site to conduct welfare checks on Tuesday, confirmed that they had moved on after police issued a section 61 notice under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act.

Inspector Mike Ankers, of the Ellesmere Port and Neston Local Policing Unit, explained that the Travellers have now set up a temporary encampment at Asda, but say they will move on Thursday (November 25).

"I have spoken to Asda, the council and the Travellers and we have been assured that they will be moving on tomorrow," he said.

"We have to make sure we are addressing everybody's needs.

"They are not causing any issues."
