A FAMILY whose mother is fighting for her life is being subjected to a campaign of intimidation.

Gary Davies and daughter Tina, 16, of Greenfields, Upton, were woken in the early hours last Saturday after their £4,500 caravan was torched at the rear of their property.

Mr Davies is already dealing with the trauma of his wife Laurraine, 52, having suffered a bleed on the brain which is being treated at Liverpool’s Walton Hospital.

Mr Davies, 43, an HGV driver, who says he knows who is behind the arson attack, is thankful his two grandchildren were not staying in the caravan overnight.

He said: “Let them throw what they like at me, I have got to concentrate on my wife.

“If she started to come round and sees that I’m worrying ...I have just got to try and blank that out at the moment.”

Mrs Davies, a home carer, was driving to work last March when she collapsed at the wheel with a ruptured aneurysm on the brain.

She has since had a stroke paralysing her right side and has developed MRSA.

“At one point I was told they didn’t think she would pull through,” added Mr Davies, who has three daughters and a stepson.

“She’s got her eyes open and responding a little to me but not to anybody else.

“She follows me a little bit and tries to grab my hand.”

Tina, who is studying for her GCSEs at Upton High School, raised the alarm over the fire which was so fierce it scorched the family car and cracked a neighbour’s window.

The teenager, who is having trouble sleeping, said: “I had not long gone to bed and woke up to the light at the window.

“I went straight into dad’s room and got him up and out of the house.”

A police and fire investigation is ongoing.

A local man in his 20s was arrested and interviewed on suspicion of arson and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Witnesses are asked to call 0845 458 0000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
