Traffic is now easing following an earlier accident on the A55 eastbound near Broughton in which a motorcyclist came off his bike.

The dual carriageway had been partially blocked affecting the stretch between J36A Chester Road, Broughton Shopping Park, and J38 A483 Wrexham Road, Posthouse roundabout, on the outskirts of Chester.

North Wales Ambulance Service were called about 3.20pm today (Tuesday, March 22) and took a male casualty to the Countess of Chester Hospital. Police officers on scene reported the motorcyclist to be 'conscious and talking'.

North Wales Police confirmed the motorcyclist had come off his bike following a one vehicle road traffic collision on the A55 eastbound one mile past Broughton. The accident was reported by a passing police patrol officer. One lane had been blocked but is now clear.

At this stage the police are classifying the incident as 'serious but not life-threatening'.

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called at approximately 3.20pm this afternoon to reports of a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle on the eastbound carriageway of the A55 near Broughton.

"We sent a crew in an emergency ambulance to the scene and the motorcyclist was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital."
