Morning congestion on the M56 has eased after a crash near junction 14.

Two cars were involved eastbound near the turn off at Hapsford at 8.50am on Thursday (November 26).

North West Motorway Police said the crash was 'damage only' and there were no injuries.

Queues had built up beyond the M53 exchange at junction 15, but these have now cleared.

Both cars were moved onto the hard shoulder once emergency services had attended which allowed traffic to flow freely again.

Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans raised a House of Commons debate on the M56 after a series of high-profile accidents between junctions 12 and 14.

But there will be no smart motorway technology on the treacherous stretch before 2020 .
